Why this exists

Two questions come up constantly from travellers and expats in Tanzania, and neither has a good answer online: what should this cost, and who can I trust? Quotes for the same trip vary by a factor of four with no explanation. Every operator has five stars on some site. The people who know are scattered across forum threads that are years old and hard to search.

This site exists to collect the answers in one place, in a form that stays useful: one person’s first-hand account of one thing, in one place, with the price they paid and the date they paid it. That last part is what turns a story into something the next person can act on.

What a post is

Every post is written by someone with an account, about something that happened to them. Prices are recorded in the currency the person actually paid, with the date. We do not convert between currencies, because a converted number needs a rate and a rate date to be honest about, and we would rather show you what someone actually paid.

• ·A price summary is only shown where at least three people have reported a price for the same thing, in the same currency and unit. Below that it is one person’s experience, not a benchmark.
• ·Reports older than two years are excluded from price summaries. A price from 2024 is a different fact from one from last month.
• ·Posts are shown in the language they were written in. We do not machine-translate them.

What the verified badge means

It means the account has a linked Google identity, and therefore a real email address behind it. That is all it means. It is not a judgement about the person, their expertise, or whether their post is accurate. We show it because knowing an account is attached to a real identity is genuinely useful, and we describe it narrowly because overclaiming would make it worthless.

What this site is not

It is not a booking service, and it takes no commission from anyone mentioned on it. Nobody can pay to appear, to rank higher, or to have a post removed. It does not verify the claims in posts, and it does not investigate businesses. Scam reports are allegations by members of the public, and the businesses named in them can respond.
